What has 14 wheels, 28 hooves, and a need for speed? Blaid Flad and his team of horses, on their way to a rodeo near you! While Compass usually reserves our fleet for the transportation of mats and oilfield technology, this summer, we’re proud to be the ride of choice for Blaid’s team. As part of our dedication to community involvement, Compass is proud to sponsor such a strong talent, and looks forward to cheering Blaid on through all 10 rodeos. In the spirit of honoring a sport made famous by Alberta, here are a few quick facts about chuckwagon races.
Chuckwagon Races are an Alberta Grown Sport
While the practice is thought to travel back to the 1800’s it was the Calgary Stampede’s founder, Guy Weadick, that translated it into an event in 1923. The races grew in prominence, and give rise to several independent circuits across North America.
The Calgary Stampede is a Peak Event for the Industry
Each year, the WPCA and CPCA submit 25 and 11 respective drivers to compete across the ten-day event. stakes are high, and the take home purse for winners is large. Each race is action-packed, high speed, and sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Compass wishes Blaid the best of luck as he competes, and invites you to join us in cheering him on throughout the season.
